Agree the stick's place before departure
Choose a repeatable place that is easy to find but does not obstruct entry and exit, and make sure a companion knows how to hand it over. The traveller then does not need to bend, search or cross luggage just before leaving.
Vehicle layouts differ, so follow the driver's safety arrangement for aisles, seats and secured items. Do not lean a stick where it can slide, jam a door or reach controls.
Hand over and move only after the stop
Wait until the vehicle is fully parked and door conditions are suitable, then have an adult check the surroundings and hand over the stick. The traveller can settle, take it, see the footing and exit with accompaniment if needed.
Do not rush to follow a group while the vehicle is moving, the roadside is busy or the surface is unclear. Pause and tell companions about dizziness, pain or instability.
Reserve the aisle for passage
While moving, stow the stick in a stable provider-approved place; keep paper bags, rain gear and other small items away from it. A clear aisle helps everyone and prevents snagging during exit.
At each stop, quickly check that the stick is intact, not left outside and not pinned under other items. Do not force use if it is damaged or unsuitable.
Let the person's condition set the pace
Having the stick ready does not mean a walk must happen. Discuss shortening, waiting or adapting with companions and the provider according to fatigue, surface, weather and arrangements.
For urgent health or safety concerns, seek suitable professional or on-site help first; same-day road and venue conditions follow official or provider information.
